Molecular Biology of RNA 2nd edition (David Elliott & Michael Ladomery)
1.1. Can you name the Nobel Prize winners who won recognition for their pioneering work in RNA biology?
1.2. What is the 'RNA world hypothesis' and what is the evidence to support it?
RNA world hypothesis is the idea that the RNA was the firts genetic material in the past. The presence of Ribozyme and organisms(including viruses, actually not the real organisms) who use RNA as the main genetic material support this idea.
1.3. What proportion of the human genome is transcribed?
85% of human genome is transcribed into transcriptome.
1.4. What proportion of the human transcriptome is coding and what proportion is non-coding?
Only 2% of transcripts are coding-gene and almost 98% of transcriptes are non-coding gene!
1.5. Can you explain the key differences between RNA and DNA?
The biggest difference is that RNA has 2'OH and DNA has 2'H. Also they uses different base(U in RNA, T in DNA) except A, G, C.
